BIGGER THAN LIFE (A registered NGO) is a movement started by a group of enthusiasts, a set of ordinary people who believe they can create extra ordinary possibilities in the lives of the underprivileged children of Mumbai. These kids are homeless, orphans or with a single parent, deprived of the basic necessity of life which may not be food, clothing and shelter but….LOVE.
This project began in April 2011, when on a Sunday evening a man noticed a few underprivileged children at Carter Road, Mumbai being taken care of by foreigners. This incident inspired him to take up ownership towards such children and he along with a few friends began conducting diverse activities like drawing, craft, creative studies, sports and life skills development. This helped them explore the talents of the children residing at the nearby slums and most importantly created a strong bond of friendship and trust.
With a mission to help the unprivileged, Bigger Than Life could not ignore the core areas of rehabilitation – Health & Well-Being. The team had an uphill task considering this project needed the participation of medical professions and experts. However, thanks to the help and support of local doctors and practitioners, the first medical camp was held in May 2012 for the BTL KharDanda families. When the camp sheets were evaluated, the doctorsensuredproper care and treatment was provided, not just for the physical cases, but for the mental and social problems as well.
